Frequently Asked Oral Health Questions

Flin Flon Dental Care Office in Manitoba offers several dental services including family dentistry, extractions and more. Read on to find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about dental services.

  • Why Should I Take Dental Visits?
Regular dental visits are important because they help to keep your teeth and gums healthy. During the dental check-up, your dental professional will check your oral health for any trouble areas such as tooth decay and other diseases. Your dental professional will also remove any plaque and tartar buildup and may polish your teeth.
  • How Often Should I Brush and Floss My Teeth?
We recommend brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once a day. Also, brush longer for at least 2 minutes to remove any food build-up and bad odour.
  • How Often Should I See My Dentist?
To keep your teeth and gums healthy, it’s essential to visit a dentist every 6 months for exams and cleanings. Your dentists may increase or decrease your check-up time frame depending upon your dental needs.
  • When Should Kids Go to the Dentist?
Ideally, you should take your child to the dentist every six months, and a child's first visit must be around age 18 months. We ensure your child is comfortable throughout the exam and screening. Once a child’s teeth start erupting, you must take care of their dental hygiene, such as regular brushing and flossing and also regular dental visits.
  • Can Dental Cleaning Damage My Enamel?
No, dental cleaning does not damage enamel; it simply removes teeth stains, discolouration, tartar, plaque and deposits of food. This removal of tartar and food deposits is important to your dental health.
  • Why Are My Teeth Sensitive?
Mostly, sensitive teeth are caused due to worn tooth enamel or exposed tooth roots. However, tooth discomfort can also be caused by other factors, such as a cavity, a cracked or chipped tooth, a worn filling, or gum disease. If you feel any sensitivity, get it evaluated by your dentist.
  • Can My Tooth Enamel Be Restored?
Once enamel is gone, it cannot be grown back. You can use restorations to help repair any areas where the enamel is lost. Using certain products recommended by the dentist can help your enamel remineralize.
  • Do You Provide Amalgam Restorations?
While most of our restorations are done using composite, we do recommend amalgam for certain procedures. This will be discussed with you before the treatment.
